How To Put Together A Kids' Craft Cart!

Being a mum of 3, I know it is so handy to have all the kids craft items in the one place!! Once my little ones started drawing and doing crafts, we ended up with pencils and crayons and bits of paper all over the house. A pencilcase or tin worked fine for a while, but a craft cart is a just a complete game changer

I am a young mum to 3 beautiful daughters, originally from Sydney, Australia - now living in country NSW with my partner of over 10 years and our girls.

4. Add the accessories!

Scissors, glue, glitter, sequins, paintbrushes - this is the area where you can really get creative!

5. And finally - storage!

This is an optional part, for sure! But it can really help long-term, so you can always know where to find everything. Otherwise it might turn out like my kids' current top toy drawer... just a bit jumbled mess of random items haha!

Organising a crafts cart is something I put off for WAY too long!! Being able to wheel it out when the kids are keen to do some crafts, instead of scrambling around the house for paper and crayons, has been an absolute game changer! Everyone gets excited, everything is in the one spot, and you can hide it away when you’re finished!

2. Paper

There are so many types of paper available out there when it comes to crafts! Butcher’s paper rolls are great for little ones who are just learning how to scribble and use their motor skills to paint, as they can just grab more and more on repeat (we literally have boxes just full of scribbled paper haha). And then there’s multicoloured paper to either drawer on or use to cut out shapes and create things, basic white paper to draw on, coloured cardboard, paper with textures such as glitter, it’s honestly endless! But either way, paper is one of those essential items for most crafting.

1. Let’s start with - the cart itself!

There’s a few different options when it comes to choosing the actual cart/trolley itself, but really, it boils down to aesthetics as well as the type of storage you’re going for. For the trolleys with bigger spacing between the tiers, you would tend to store things standing upright (like paint botlles, brushes and crayons), whereas the trolleys with tiers close together you'd tend to store everything laying down flat - like how you would with cutlery or inside an office desk drawer. There’s either bulk-tier trolleys with 5 or 10, sometimes even two-sided trolleys with up to 15 storage trays, or more aesthetic trolleys with just 3 or 5 tiers. See below for the most popular options!

3. Mediums

Crayons, paints, pencils, textas, all the items to create images and scribbles with!

So here’s what I personally love to always have in our craft cart:
