5 Christmas Present Ideas For Toddlers (that aren’t toys !!)

Does your toy box get super over full way too often?? I don’t know about you, but our toy box gets choc way too much for my liking around here and while I love the girls getting new toys, honestly the last year or so I’ve been noticing how little they actually play with everything in their toy boxes! Since being pregnant and having a newborn this year, I’ve been turning to activities rather than toys to keep my toddlers happy because honestly it’s way better for their minds, it keeps them motivated for longer and there’s way less waste and build up of clutter at the end of the day.

1. Something to ride on!

We all know how wild and energetic our little ones are, so of course they love riding around on things like trikies and scooters - even for toddlers you can find suitable ones for their age like this 3-wheeled tilt scooter for little ones! Something I never realised was how often their needs can change as they grow and develop, so I swear every Christmas I’m pretty much upgrading the toys they ride on. My eldest is 4, so she is now asking for her first bike like this Honey Joy First Kids bike our eyes are on the which is super exciting! And my second is 2, so she might need a cool trikie - something a bit more bulky which looks like a bike like this My First Barbie Trike or the  Frozen Fly Wheels Ride On Trike so she can keep up with her big sister. There’s so many more options to choose from too, like mini bikes for 1 year olds and smaller ride ons. The options will vary depending on the age and abilities of your little ones, so this is definitely something to think about and look into for your littles and what suits your family right now!

2. Arts and crafts

This year I have really gravitated towards arts and crafts since over the past few years I’ve just watched on as our toys build up and up and honestly - I end up throwing out a lot of them to the tip, which always makes me shudder at the idea of so much waste out there. So, arts and crafts has become major in our home, and mostly my eldest daughter loves it! The perfect Christmas gift for my girls is going to be matching fluffy notebooks like this plush Unicorn notebook and the plush Love Bear notebook for their scribbles, as well as things like A3 paper pads, jumbo washable crayons, washable craft glue and tissue paper squares already cut up for you. Just hit up Pinterest for easy toddler craft ideas and you’re set! I love searching for easy colouring in activities, printing them off and then the girls can stick tissue paper on them all day long. There’s soo many craft kit packs to get you going as well. And if you don’t know where to start, making things like our favourite Pom Pom soup is great! They will have so much fun with the water play it’ll be perfect to play with at Christmas time.

3. Activities

Where do I even start - toddler busy boards, magnetic or felt play scenes, puzzles and educational activities like matching games. This list is honestly endless! For my 4 year old’s birthday, she was gifted a little magnetic princess castle scene playset - and it occupied her for hours, NO JOKE. She sat there all morning for about 2-3 hours playing with it, and she even started calling it her “computer”. She was obsessed, and now we have it in her room so she can play with it if she wakes up super early before it’s time to get up (who else has early risers living in their household 😅). I love how much these activities get their little minds going. For example, one of our favourite games is this sequence matching game - it’s so educational but also super fun. It’s led to a lot of questions and learning about how things work, in such a simple way.

4. Something to grow

Every toddler LOVES the outdoors - especially when it comes to the garden and playing with dirt and plants! Why not invest in some kids gardening tools and seedlings or seeds and plant something?

One year we planted a whole heap of sunflower seeds and the sunflowers that grew were enormous! We also planted cherry tomatoes and not only were they everywhere, the girls would love picking them and it was such a fun activity to do all the time with them. We’d all put on our bucket hats and grab a bucket and head out there to pick some veggies. Now we also even pick flowers from the garden and use them to make “fairy soup” - or even just fill a little jar and put it in our kitchen to freshen up the house. Mornings with toddlers well spent!!

5. Something creative

You know when you scroll through your photos on your phone and come across some pics your little one took? Lol it’s always so cute seeing the world from their perspective! Well - why not invest in their first camera? Polaroids can be expensive, but there’s tonnes of cute little kid cameras like this Digital Selfie Camera For Kids out there now that aren’t even that expensive. They’ll love taking pictures and seeing how it turns out!! 😍 content is king these days in almost all industries, and it doesn’t look like it’s going anywhere. May as well get them started now! Or - another idea is an electronic LED drawing notepad. They’re super cheap and feel like an iPad, which they will love!! They’ll be able to scribble all day and pretend to be the daycare teacher - so fun!
