Playing outside doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn’t have to be hard either!! With these easy, quick ideas, you will be able to have heaps of fun with your little one/s outside and make memories all summer long! These are low-prep, go-to activities that always keep my toddlers entertained and it’s great! Activity ideas for kids | outdoor play ideas | what to do in summer with kids

So let's get into it!

1. Dirty cars. This is such a great one - especially for those who love playing with sand or dirt! All you do is grab a few toy cars, roll them around in the dirt or sand (SO FUN) and then give them a wash with a bucket of warm soapy water! You can do it on repeat - entertainment for hours!

2. Carwash. Almost the same as the previous activity, but with no dirt, and this one you can really elaborate on the carwash side of it. Get some sponges, grab a bucket of warm soapy water, and start lining up the toy cars all waiting for a carwash. You can have toy barbies or teddies who own the car, and have to pay for it or use a ticket!

3. Barbie pool. Grab your toy barbies, some friends, and a plastic container, and start to fill up the bucket with water! Barbie and her friends can all have fun playing in the pool, and you can even set up a fun sunbathing area with toy chairs and umbrellas!

4. Barbie beach. Almost the same as above, but this time there’s sand involved! Take this to the next level by also having some shells Barbie can find on the beach, and she can put into her bucket along the way!

5. Lego/blocks scoop. Grab a bucket of water, and start adding Duplo or toy blocks! You can scoop them, bob them around in the water, or mix them around and around with a ladle! This is great because the toys get clean as you play!

  1. Watering the garden

  2. Flower scoop

  3. Fruit scoop

  4. Cardboard flower walk

  5. Flowers in a jar

6. Watercolour spray. Grab a spray bottle, and fill it with a little bit of washable kids paint topped with water. Pin up some large sheets of paper, and go wild spraying with different colours and seeing what patterns you can make!

7. Sprinkler mat. Sprinkler mats are so much fun! They’re usually really affordable, and all you have to do is plug them into your hose, put on your swimmers and have fun jumping around on the mat with the water coming out!

8. Soap slide. Grab a plastic sheet either some sort of long table cloth cover, or get a proper sliding plastic splash mat, throw some bubble bath detergent on it with your hose going and go nuts sliding!

9. Sand play table. Don’t stress about a big, giant sandpit. There are so many play tables out there you can use to create a sand play table which is just as fun!

10. Water play table. Water play is so great for summer outdoor play! In fact my daughters love it the whole year round. Once you have your water play table, just grab the hole and start filling it up and off you go!
