Ditch The Resolutions And Do These 6 Things Instead Before 2025
Do you ever make New Year’s resolutions only to find that by late January or February, you’ve either forgotten what they were or you haven’t stuck to them? I swear this happens to everyone! So how can you start your year feeling fresh, with new goals and resolutions, but actually sticking to them? Let me give you some real ways you can do some things to make your year feel fresh and make your goals achievable!

Review out your current way of doing things.
How are the notes looking on your phone? Do you have just one journal or a few going at the same time? What sort of calendar do you use? A fridge magnet calendar, or a desk calendar? How do they work for you? These are all things that we use daily to help us stay organised, but they can get messy. For example, up until about a month ago, I was using the notes on my phone with all of my to do lists in one. I just had this huge list of things I had to get done, and look I did have my little system. I’d put an emoji next to the ones that were important. But it was all over the place and hard to keep track of! Now I use this app called Trello, where I’ve split up my to do tasks into categories and I can flag and prioritise the cards that are important. See my post on 6 steps to refresh your home organisation here.
So it meant that before I went to Trello, I had these crazy notes on my phone so now I am going to scroll through them, copy and paste anything I want to keep, and delete them. If you can’t bring yourself to delete them, then just throw it all into a new folder called 2024 and start fresh!
Clear things out. This could be:
Photos. Review how you’re doing things. Are you paying for storage? Do you need to upgrade it? Do you need to back it up onto a USB (block)? Do you want to send a bunch off to get printed and put them into a photo album? Or put them into frames on the wall or a side table?
Wardrobe. Do you like the fits you currently wear? Or does the whole thing just make you feel ugh? I recently had my third baby, and lemme tell ya, I hate my wardrobe at the moment. But - I recently just went through it all, and I surprised myself with how much I’d actually enjoy wearing at the moment. Sometimes you just need to pull things out and pick out the things you like, and give away the rest.
Pantry. Could your food storage use some lovin? I recently ordered a 6 pack of cereal storage containers because I was so sick of all the boxes building up in our home. I also went through and cleared out a whole bunch of sections that we hadn’t looked at in more than a few months which really needed some attention. Surprisingly it wasn’t too bad. A lot of it needed to be thrown out, and the rest I just placed back on the shelf after wiping it down.
Other storage. You’ll have your own areas around your house or car that need some attention. This could be the garage, an office area, book shelves, bathroom storage, kitchen storage or under the sink. Don’t try to get to everything, but just have a look at some areas you’re sick of seeing, put on some good music and make a throw/keep pile.
Audit your routines.
Have a think about your current morning and night routines. What is the first thing you do when you wake up? How about at night, what’s the last thing you do? Do you scroll on your phone? Do you want to change that? Would it feel better to have a slow rising alarm clock like this one by your bedside and wake up to that? Do you want to try reading more instead? You could make it your goal to read a few pages a night before bed instead of being on your phone. Or, you could journal. There are soo many cute prompt journals out there now! Why not grab one like this bedtime journal and change that in your night routine?
Remember also to go easy on yourself! It’s not going to feel easy making these changes, and it might take time but if you make it fun and enjoy it, that will make it so much easier!
Make a vision board.
Personally, I was never a fan of vision boards to be honest. They’re triggering for me because of my fear of failure and fear of disappointment. But in recent years I’ve been on a huge personal development journey and have read books about mindset and how the brain works and how we can actually get closer to our goals - deeper than just the vision board itself. However, in saying all that, the vision is where it starts. This is where we can allow ourselves to dream. So have a think about the year ahead, after reflecting on the year past. What do you want to do differently? Or do the same? Do you want to go on 2 holidays this year? Do you want to buy your first home or car? Do you want to pay off some personal loans? Read 5 or 10 books? Journal daily or exercise more? Everyone’s journey and where they’re at is so unique and different but I’m sure you can name some things on your heart right off the bat.

Get started on your personal development journey.
You didn't just stumble across my blog for no reason. I'm not like everyone else, because I've included something super special at the end here for those who are still with me. I'm about to get a bit airy fairy with you and I don't care, because I don't gatekeep. Want to know how to truly have everything you want in your life that will make you happy? Well, let me explain.
One thing that really burns my biscuits is how much advice is out there, but f*** all about your own beliefs around whether you think you can actually do the thing or not. Because that’s the MAIN thing that actually stops you reaching your goals. In fact I recently did a short business course that cost $440 but honestly - it was all stuff I already knew, and that I was already doing! It triggered me because I thought wow - there would be so many people out there paying for this. When let’s be real, we already know how to do all of this stuff. There's no hidden secret despite some of it being helpful tips. No - what we really need help with is believing we can achieve it. Which, you can. I swear whatever is on your heart, you can have. You are worthy of having it. You just have to believe and start the thing and commit to the thing - and get help doing that.
We all know how to record a video. We all know how to start a YouTube channel. We all know how to write or make a website or whatever it is you want to do. Make a product and sell it. It’s easy! That part is easy. What’s actually hard is doing it. Putting it out there. I wished we lived in a world where we all pursued the true life of our dreams. Imagine how much better off we’d be!? I swear rates of heart attacks and diabetes would severely drop, because we’d all be happier people. Anyway. I digress. But let this be your year. I wish I had someone in my life years ago who told me to do this. Make it your goal and get STARTED. I highly recommend Make It Happen by Jordanna Levin to get you started!

I get it - New Year’s resolutions are so fun to make! It’s a new year, a fresh start. We can put all the crqp behind us and start the year off on the right foot. But how do we actually put all the crap behind us? How can we make sure the resolutions actually last? Everyone’s heard of those stats around people joining gyms and 3 months later never being caught seen in one. We all do it, and I honestly think there’s so many reasons for it that we are all guilty of.
So with 32 years of wisdom behind me (lol), let me give you a few ways to help you get ahead so that you really can make those resolutions and enjoy the new year once it’s here. These tips will set you up for success and give you that fresh feeling so when you do wake up January 1st, you feel really good and ready - rather than being behind the 8 ball already.
Have a look at your bills at the moment.
What's your electricity bill up to? Or how about water and gas? What is still outstanding? Sometimes this can be a big old bloody mess by the end of the year, and you'll thank yourself at the beginning of the year when you know where you're up to with it all. I know, it’s hard to look at. It might be super messy. But if you do this now and just have a look and put it into one pile, it might not be as bad as you think. Plus, when the new year finally rolls around, you’ll be thanking yourself that you did it because you’ll be fresh back at work, raking the money in again and you can get clearing those bills y'all! 😂
If you haven’t read Jen Sincero’s book about money yet, well let me explain what she says. Sometimes your money situation can be like a big old bandaged up wound you don’t want to look at. It’s been sitting there with the bandaid on for ages, and you know it’s going to be messy so you don’t want to deal with it. But, eventually you know you’ll have to go find a good moment in your day one day, invest in some antiseptic and other items from the chemist, take the bandaid off and deal with it. It’s not better right away, but after deciding to tend to it, you find that slowly slowly it heals and gets better. Just like it can be with money! Her book about money is the best - it changed my life with money! If you haven’t read it, grab it here.
The thing is, you can go out and buy all the highlighters and new journals and pens and all the things (which do have their place, of course). Or you can spend a day putting on music and doing your vision board. But what happens a few days later? Or weeks or months later? LIFE. Life is what happens. We ditch it, because it all becomes too hard. Why? Because we didn’t change ourselves. We didn’t look at our daily routines and what to work on in our own selves. We didn’t look at building ourselves up, from the inside, that would keep us consistent on the right path to doing what we truly want to do. So take this as your sign. Get a coach or do that program or read that book. And work on yourself. Because at the end of the day, THAT is what is going to change your life for the better.
Take it one step further and have a think. Is this your year to start changing your money mindset? Have you stumbled across this blog for a reason? Maybe it’s time. I am so passionate about it. I can’t wait to teach my daughters about it as they grow up, and I wish I knew about it years and years ago seriously. I am so grateful for my journey and what I’ve like, but holy moly, if only I knew about it earlier!
